I haven't updated in FAR too long. I've been quite busy with school and all that.
I believe this time around I'm going to pass Calculus is a satisfactory fashion. I'm getting the B I need in computer science.
I currently have a D in physics and that's probably not going to improve, but as long as it doesn't get worse, I'll have what I need out of that class.
Other than that, life has been dull.
Black Friday is a required work day for all hastings employees.
I've never worked on a black friday, let alone in retail so I'm not quite sure what to expect. But everyone says to expect the most hellish day ever.

Decisions, Decisions

So, while, technically in spring semester's end I was weeded, I do have the option of retaking 121. I've decided that, while it will set me back a semester, I'm going to retake 121 and get my B.
If I end up having a large amount of extra time in the future when I just have cores to take care of, I can always pick up a minor (Or if it's really bad, another major)
Overall. I hope to get a better handle on things. Last semester I was seriously slacking off and I could have screwed myself for all of my future career; It's time to buckle down and get serious.

I've done some work outside of being a register monkey at Hastings, finally.
Worked music again, at closing this time. It was excellent. I really like working music. Then I spent a day where I was technically clocked in as a register monkey, but I was working in video all day, also quite fun.
Being at register is boring, but most of the other areas of the store are quite fun.

Work and Weeded

So, working at hastings hasn't been too bad.
I've been acting as a register monkey most of the time, however today I worked in "lifestyles" which is the music section.
It was fun.
Sure, for the most part I just zoned out and watched movies, but the customers I had to deal with weren't bad, and I got to feel cool holding the keys to the ipod case. (And game case while that guy was at lunch)

Aaaand now the bad news:
I didn't pass my final with the 84%, apparently.
My final grade in the class reads a C. I believe this means I've been screwed out of my CS major.. I'm not sure exactly but.. I'm still thinking about what this means I should do..

Summer "vacation" begins

Summer has officially started. Finals went.. Alright.
I couldn't actually tell you at the moment how well I did.
I'll find out in a couple of days once final grades are posted. The Chemistry depends on a couple of my "educated guesses" and the CS depends on some partial credit. I REALLY hope I got better than an 84% on the CS final or... I don't have a clue what I'm going to do..
That would be me officially under "weeded" status.

Hastings is being a bit retarded already, trying to have me scheduled for work before my availability starts, so I'm going to have to call them later today and inform them that, indeed, I cannot start until they day stated on my availability sheet.

In other news, my sleep schedule has been really screwed up lately. I can't seem to get myself to go to sleep before four AM. And then I wake up between 10 and noon.

Wage Slave Job, Get!

So, I've officially got my job at Hastings. I finished filling out paperwork on saturday, and should be starting work in around two weeks when I return from Spokane. The pay isn't grand, but given that I live in a state that I'm pretty sure has t he lowest minimum wage anywhere.. Meh. It'll be enough to pay the bills and at this point that is all I care about.

Finals this week!
Tomorrow: CS final. I need to get an 84% on the final to get a B in the class.
Hopefully I won't make any stupid mistakes, I'll be doing studying today.
If I don't get an 84... Honestly I don't know what I'd do. It'd mean I'd need to retake the class in order to continue in my major. Xx

Thursday: Chemistry final. I'll likely do a bit of studying on wednesday although, honestly, I'm not really worried about it.

Drug Tests Are Gross

Well, I passed the interview. I would even go so far as to describe it as "The Easiest Interview Ever." So today I had to get a ride to pullman so I could get a drug test done. I've done them before but it's still a rather gross concept.. pissing in a cup.
But I did it. The nurse chick was a little bitchy. I got there a little after three and was told they don't normally do drug tests after three. (I was told 5)
Once it goes through, however, I should be getting my job at Hastings and can start work after next weekend. Thereafter I shall make with much reading of free books, etc.
And, you know, doing wage slave work.

Retaking Calculus

So, it's official, I'm taking a fail in calculus and retaking it in the fall. Hopefully next time around I'll get it better. One of my coworkers suggested taking math 144 which is a 1 credit course on trig stuff. He said it'd help quite a bit with all the stupid trig things that one has to do in calc. I'm going to consider it. If nothing else it'd be an easy 1 credit A for my gpa, which is going to need all the boosts it can get.

Other than that, my classes are registered and the fall shouldn't be bad.
I'm retaking calc, Taking a CS class, physics, and Creative Writing: Fiction.

I have a job interview at hasting later today. Hopefully I'll get the job. Income would be a nice thing to have. That whole "paying rent" and "being able to eat" thing..

School's winding down

The semester is almost at an end. We've only got a few weeks of classes left. Including finals, I think we've got three.
After that I'm going to have to go out and find a real job, sadly. I'll probably put in an application to Hastings today or tomorrow. It'd be pretty rad to work at a video game/book store. Two of my favorite hobbies, all under one roof. With a discount.
Dunno, if there would be a problem due to the fact that my room mate just got hired there was a supervisor.

I'm probably going to retake calculus in the fall. Unless I do amazing on the final.

Money woes at an end!

My bank account this morning had a balance somewhere around 550 dollars.
My rent, which is due in 8 days is 450 dollars. While I have a room mate, he just managed to get a job so he probably won't have his chunk of the rent yet. My job pays about 200 per month. I've been freaking out as I realized how low my money had gotten. I didn't know how I was going to pay for rent.
I didn't know how I was going to pay for renewing my website. (I think my hosting is about to expire)
Generally, I just figured I was boned.
Then I got an email two days ago saying the university cashier had a check for me. I went by to get it today and they actually had 2.
1 was a check for 68 dollars.
The other was a check for 1490 something.
Apparently I had forgotten to pick up my financial aid overflow check this semester. I'd been wondering how the heck my math for my budgeting had been so horrendously off.
I should be able with this to make it through to summer before I need to go out and get another job.
Huzzah!

Home at last

I'm finally back home after a couple weeks of being out of the apartment while my roommate had Mono.
First thing i did was attempt to finish up my bleach sanitizing of the kitchen. I was most of the way down when I broke (another) glass. Just like the last one, it shattered while I was scrubbing the inside with a sponge.
Sigh.
So, once again I've got a nice gaping hole in the back of my hand and one by the thumb too. The big one is the one on the back which is right over my middle knuckle. So most hand movement opens it up. I've got a bandaid on there which i had to wake up my room mate who was in bed with his girlfriend to help me open.
I was holding a cloth over my hand so i didn't gush blood all over the place.
I hope to still finish the cleaning of the kitchen tomorrow, maybe enlist the help of my room mate. I wanted him to do it anyway but he didn't. I don't know if that was due to laziness or adversity to bleach..

More disease

Lots of homework.

And one of my room mate's got Mono.
I don't know exactly where he got it. I assume he got it from his girlfriend, although we haven't seen her have the symptoms of it.
I've been out of the apartment for about a week.
Probably going to bring him some bleach tomorrow so he can get the place sanitary again.

So, I can definitely feel that I am starting to get sick. My room mate's girlfriend was over all weekend and she works in a daycare. She brought the plague with her.
My girlfriend caught it from her and so did my room mate so basically, I spent the whole weekend surrounded by people with colds.
I've been feeling slightly feverish today and have a small bit of a cough. I'm hoping I can kill it before it starts with copious amounts of vitamin C, like I usually kill my diseases, so I'm currently drinking lots of orange juice.
On the bright side, my calculus teacher is apparently also sick, because I didn't have class today.

Tests and More Tests

The chemistry test last week wasn't too bad. I got a 76% which is 5% higher than the average. I have slightly lower expectations for the Calculus test which is tomorrow. I understand some concepts but others it seems like I just think I understand: I'll write it out, thinking I'm doing everything right and then come to an answer that is totally wrong. Or I'm doing some kind of silly algebraic mistake. I fear that those might bite me a lot tomorrow considering we're not allowed to have any sort of calculator. If I mess up by missing some tiny little math calculation like... addition, I'm going to be quite pissed off.

In other news, Elisabeth's birthday party thing was pretty fun. It turned out not to be a surprise but, meh, what can you do. We had the worst snowball fight ever, fight fighting where the guys were on the ground and the girls on the balcony, then fighting in a big open field. I guess I can't blame them, the people here aren't used to getting real snow, so they don't know how good snowball fights are supposed to work with things for everyone to hide behind and run around.

Canceled classes & studying

Today, yesterday, and monday my Computer Science classes were canceled. While monday and tuesday I had some forwarning about this and was therefore about to just stay home and come to class hours later when I actually needed to, I found out today about the class being canceled from a sign on the door.
However, it wasn't worthwhile to turn around and go home as I'd just have to come back in a couple hours. So I sat around and read some stuff on being a prince in Vampire The Masquerade. I'm not sure if I actually want to try for that prestigious goal, as it'd be a pain in the butt, but it'd be amusing to set myself up for anyway, just to be a thorn in the current prince's side.
Then I went to the Chemistry review for today's test. I'm hoping the test won't be too bad, although I'll find out in four hours..
Currently I'm at a work, getting in a few hours and putting forth a bit more Chemistry studying. Before work I went to the bookstore and bought a crappy little four-function calculator so that I can use it for the chemistry test, since they're very strict about what you can use.
Why is it that the classes where you really have to do a lot of math, they don't let you use calculators?
I've had this problem not only with chemistry, but calculus too...

Homework cram time

One of the largest issues I run into as a college student is my poor sense of time. I tend to know what time it is, sure, and I'll usually know the day of the week, but I rarely know what the date is. Unfortunately, when professors give you assignments they tend to give you a due date not a due day...
So, this weekend, when I really should have started on my programming assignment and done my chemistry pre-test thing... I didn't. I slacked off, played some videogames.. did some roleplay. And generally was unproductive.
Luckily, both my computer science class and my math class are canceled today, which will give me time to do my chemistry practice test before class and then come home and start programming...

New Semester

So, the new semester has been going for a couple weeks now. I've gotten back into the swing of being in classes. I don't have a large number of classes this semester, only three, but they're all heavy homework classes: Calculus, Chemistry, and CS 121.
Add to this the various roleplaying games I'm playing at the moment; Shadowrun, Rixses, and Vampire: The Masquerade and it puts me at a rather busy schedule.
Overall I think things will be not too bad. The Calculus is turning out to be a pain, as expected. The homework is difficult and... sadly... online. I fail to see how the math department thought it was a good idea to math the calculus homework online as much calculus doesn't fit the online format but.. .alas... some people think that no matter what moving forward with technology is always a good thing...

Finals and Grades

I finished up my finals last week. I didn't do quite as well as I figured I was going to.
Overall my final grades were a bit of a dissapointment.
I don't have my letter grade for my ethics or CS class yet, however, I did get my grade for my paper in ethics which was... dissapointing. To be fair, I did write it on the day it was due, so it was far from being the best paper. But I expected it to get quite a bit better than a 50%..
In japanese I got a C, which is roughly what I expected given my lack of doing two of the workbooks which made up I think around 10-20% of the grade.
I'm seeing good things for my CS class, since I thought I did pretty good on the final.

In my Math class I was given a B. I say given because a B is far, far better than I actually deserved in that class. I never did the homework and I got the following test grades; 90, 54, 5, 67 (all out of 100)
I don't know what I got on the final exam, but unless I had some brilliant scantron guesses...

But overall, I guess I should be pleased, since it saves me from having to redo an entire semester of college just to take that one math class over again...

Next semester I look forward to returning to C++ programming and math that isn't recursive. ((I'd like to do math that isn't a million times harder to conceptualize as just math instead of as a program))

NanoWriMo: Day Fail

Alas, today should be the halfway point on my NaNoWriMo.
Sadly, due to homework, work, and far too many social engagements than I ever like to be holding, I haven't been able to write since the day of my last post.
I have roughly three or four days worth of writing done.
It's quite sad, really. I would have liked to actually succeed this year as I had a story to use for once.

Nanowrimo report: Day 4

Once again this year, I decided to go forth and take the NaNoWriMo Challenge. Alas, I'm off to a rather poor start. Double Roleplaying Game Weekends, Classes and Work were all challenges which I forsaw having to dodge around in my quest to finish the NaNoWriMo on my Fourth attempt..
However, I've also had a rather disruptive roommate who seems bent on a quest to prevent me from completing nano. It is quite dissapointing, as she is well aware that NaNo is my november and has been so since 2003ish.

Relevant Work!

So, I quit my work study in the computer lab on thursday. I'm going to instead be working in the records management department helping to reprogram their database. I'm totally stoked to be working in a job that is actually relevant to what I want to be doing.

And by the time all is said and done my Visual Basic will be awesome and I'll have learned SQL. SQL has been on my to-do list for quite some time. Having learned it, it'll open up all kinds of fun things. Like actually being able to do things in php.

I got my first real comment since the blog move the other day.
Sadly, it was asking if I could bring back gunster. [insert reasons gunster is cool here]

I'm not sure exactly how to respond to that one seeing as I can't..
I'm the top hit for gunster private servers (amusingly) but I don't actually know of any. I don't even know if anyone out there is trying to make one.

As I said before, I'm saving the files in case anyone ever needs them, but I wouldn't know how to even start trying to reverse engineer the server. And it can't be helpful at all that there is no server to look at.

Spam Comments, huzzah!

My main blog The Socialist Gamer Review, has been getting massive spam comments lately. Or at least from someone such as myself, who doesn't normally get any comments at all, a couple spams a day (or ten) sounds massive.

For some reason, they spammer is particularly interested in my post on HOME the sandbox MMO/Chat room/Gaming meet-up place for the PS3. I'm not sure if my post is good ranking in the search engines or if it's just totally cool, but the incoherent 253543634 links per post comments love it.

I never really got spam when i was on blogger, I got a couple, but they were spam posts that were actually made by people. (People looking for linkage, not really paying attention to the post, but I let one of them slide cause it was close enough to relevant and I so rarely get comments)

I haven't posted on here in quite some time, I've been busy with school, work, and generally playing too many videogames.

At the moment I am diseased. As of friday I've had rather annoying sinus pain, plus a runny nose. This morning I woke up with a sore throat, but luckily it was just due to dehydration. I've gotten tonsilitus before and I used to get strep throat a lot as a kid so.. I get a little paranoid when I have sore throats.

Anyway, I should starting posting regularly again. And even more importantly, the posts should have more content than this one.

I was planning on doing lots of things today; I was going to write up new review criteria for single player games for use on my main blog then maybe work on a review for the one of the various games which has been eating my life and soul lately.
Besides that I had some housework to do. Namely wash some dishes as I haven't in about a week.
Instead a friend showed up who I haven't seen in a few months so I went out with him and trolled about in the mall and the fair and etc..
Generally it was a quite unproductive day.

Dynasty Doom

I've been playing massive amounts of Dynasty Warriors lately. I've had Dynasty Warriors IV for a long time, but I recently began to play V. I really like how it adds strategy elements to the game. It's not just the hardcore action anymore, now you have to pay attention to bases and siege weapons etc..

I've been having a lack of non-linear RPGs in my life lately, so I've acquired Fable, Morrowind, and Harvest Moon: Rune Factory.

Haven't done too much with the morrowind yet, but I've been jammin' out the evil on Fable and been farming like mad on the HM. They're fun. Wonderful wasters of time too.

Communists in Idaho? "Real" or "Rebellious"?

Yesterday I saw a couple people around campus who had shirts with the hammer & sickle on them: the typically chosen brand of people of various "communist" beliefs. I had to wonder as I saw both if they really believed in all that was implied by the symbol they wore upon their chests. (or stomach, as it were)

I've been a follower of Marxism for quite awhile and, in my experience (mostly on the net, as others are a bit thin here in the US) there are quite a few people who refer to themselves as communists but really... aren't. Much like the punk and goth movements, I hold great fear that comunism will be eaten up by mainstream youth who wish to feel "rebellious" against "The Man." I don't have a problem with the spread of communism, quite the contrary it is something I hope to see a lot of during my lifetime, however, I despise it when people apply a label to themselves for the sake of the label. If people are going to call themselves communists, I want them to be informed on what that means to be a communist and on the literature and doctrine written by the 'communists of old.'

People need to have the head to hold the political and philosophical side of the communist movement, not just be holding a symbol. Of course, being a member of the working class might help too..

Work is rather boring

So, I'm currently sitting at my new job in the Art & Architecture Computer Studio at the U of I. And I'm bored out of my skull. I'm kind of expected this, especially for my first day since I don't even know how to run the giant printers yet, but still..
I've got four hours of basically nothing to do, so I'm sitting, screwing around on my laptop.

I decided after about an hour to do some maintenance on my computer, which was probably stupid as that makes things even more boring, but I'm doing a deep scan on my computer for spyware. So far its found around 300 things.

They're probably mostly cookies, although I noticed at least a few were in the registry.

End First School Week Report!

My first week of school is finished. Personally I think it's going to be an awesome year so far. My math class will no doubt be a hassle, but I'll struggle through it. Already I'm finding concepts in the first three classes that went over my head in class and I had to have explained to me by my room mate later.

My Japanese class makes me feel like I'm in kindergarten. The teacher likes to do this activity where we lay out all the letters on little cards on the ground, she says a word and we have to find the letters and spell the word. The hard part isn't spelling them, it's finding them in the mess of letters. But it's still exciting to be learning and finding myself able to point out the kana.

My Computer Science class has only met twice so far, but the teacher was really cool. The stuff being learned at the moment is basically how computers are made up and how the structure of the different parts of the software and hardware are needed to work together to make your final program. I think it'll help quite a bit with programming things later, so I'm rather pleased that I'm taking it out of order of when it's normally taken.

My ethics class has only had one lecture so far and one discussion class. The class will be interesting as I know the teacher of the lecture is awesome and philosophy classes are generally fun. I enjoy the "deep" discussions.

In other news, yesterday I finally took the effort to move my MMORPG/Gaming Blog from blogger to it's own domain. I've got a couple drafts sitting around for later posting. Amusingly when school starts most people have less time to do things. I think no longer working 40(45) hours per week my time will actually be increasing, so I should be able to get back to regularly updates on The Socialist Gamer Review.

Start of a new school year

Friday was my last day of work at Corporate Slave land. Today I went by the book store and bought my work book for my japanese class and my text book for Computer Science 150.

Last night was my first night sleeping in my new apartment, it was awesome. Tomorrow is the start of the new semester. I'm rather looking forward to it. I'll be even more so once I have wireless internetz in my apartment. At the moment we just have out internet box set up in the window and it can only be wired into one computer at a time.

Until such time my gaming and blogging time may be a bit restricted, but once we get a router things will be fine. Except for, you know, that whole homework thing.

Parking Lot Hit and Run

A couple days ago, I was getting carts from the horseshoe, I look up the hill and I see a grey car backing out at far too sharp of an angle. They slammed into the back of the car to their right, leaving a dent about a foot wide of a red car's bumper. Noting their mishap they pulled forward but instead of, oh, say, stopping like a normal, intelligent person would, They tried again, this time slamming on the gas really hard. Their car hit the other car again but slammed back hard enough to rip off the bumper and get through.

I quickly read the liscense plate number and ran inside to get some paper to write it down. When I came back out to get a description of the car that had been hit to call it over the intercom, I found the grey car had been stopped by half a dozen people in the parking lot. We called the owner of the red car; they almost cried. Insurance information was gathered, the cops were called, I gave my little witness report and it was generally taken care of.

The part that I personally find disgusting was that they tried to sprint off when they'd smashed up the car. To call it "Not taking responsibility for your actions" would be a bit of an understatement. Turns out it was a teenage female, I'd say around 17. I found myself curious as to how high their insurance costs were going to be rising.

I've never been in a car accident. For that matter, I don't drive very often, as I'm scared of cars. (And don't have one) but just about everyone else in my family has been in one and I know they can become quite expensive. Any horror stories from the audience?

Gauntlet Time

I've got the rest of this week of work left and then next week. Next week they're loading everyone up with over time since the students are coming back into town. It'll be nice, actually because it'll make my last paycheck not quite so lame, but I only have one day off next week and thats tuesday. So, I'll have a minimum of 48 hours next week.

In other news, I get a paycheck today.. That'll be nice. And I need to order my books, at least the one I don't plan on getting through the bookstore...

I turned in my two week notice today. A great weight was lifted off my shoulders, I must say, as I exited the back after turning it in. I now have two weeks left, around eight-five hours of work-ish, and I'll be done with walmart forever! Wahaha.

And then I'll just have school and my work study. Quite awesome.

So..
I got a cell phone yesterday.
To those of you who know anything about this sort of thing, it's a Nokia 6126. For those of you who, like me, would never care to know cell phone types that well by numbers, it's the cheap one, but not the free one. They were out of their free phones. It's pretty rad though, as it does phone things, which is all I need it for.
The games are kinda sucky and most of the ring tones are annoying, but I can deal with it.
I just needed a phone.

Worst day of work, ever.

Today I experienced one of my worst days of work yet. Even though it's thursday and therefore there were two stockmen out there, we were rarely getting the carts because we were being sent off on other errands to get shelves stocked. Of course all the things we had to get were not only on palettes, but those palettes were on shelves in the back some 40 feet off the ground. So we had to find someone trained in the heavy machinery to get them down...

Besides this, it was once again in at least the 90s temperature-wise and huge amounts of carts were being taken away in other parts of store for restocking purposes and switching out of merchandise for "back to school."

I can't wait till I get my work study and the university and can quit my job..

Ah, chores

I had a list of chores I planned on getting done this week, including putting together the beds, organizing the living room, moving my computer, and purchasing some internets.

I haven't got any of them done yet (although the beds are half done) although I probably will before the week is done. Most of them anyway.
Not so sure about the internets one.

Moving is such a pain. Although I need to get my desktop computer moved and set up so I can get into my godaddy account and get the website up for my gaming group as well as moving my other blog to wordpress and it's own domain...

It's hot again

Well, once again it's warmed up to the 90s. Which means at work I'm in 100 degree or higher heat. Also, the ice water jug thing has been empty, so I've been having to make trips to the drinking fountain.

Bricks are heavy

Last night a guy came in to buy some big bricks. The garden center person was on a cash register so they couldn't assist, so I was asked to go help the guy load his car. I did so and they were quite heavy. As I was loading the tenth-ish brick, I had to reach over two others which were stacked to stack it on the one in the middle seat. I failed my dexterity check and ended up squishing my left ring finger with the brick. I thought it just was hurting like hell cause it was bleeding under the nail or something. It wasn't until about a half hour later that I noticed it was really starting to swell up.

By the time I was able to actually put ice on it, it was really too late to prevent the swelling from happening. Currently the top of my finger is around twice its normal size and purple... like a grape..

Today, near the closing time of the store, I saw a rather sweet motorcycle parked next to my cart rows. It was a bright orange-ish color, with yellow flames all over it. The flames were framed with blue. Generally it looked totally awesome. What really cause my attention however, was the liscense plate. It read, "Marx13." I immediately became curious as I wondered what the political affiliations of the vehicle's owner were. I personally thought awhile back about what I'd want for a custom plate and it was very similar to that.

I considered asking the person when they came out of the store what prompted them to make that selection. However, when they came up, put their bag in their saddlebag, and started putting their bandana on their head to go, I chickened out. I knew it would leave me curious for a long time whether or not I had given up the chance to meet a comrade in arms, a fellow marxist, but I chickened out, and didn't take the initiative of asking a random stranger such a question.

Job Hazards

Being a cart person is only a mildly hazardous job. I mean, you have the heavy carts you're pushing, you've got crazy drivers who don't pay attention and (at least subconsciously) want to kill you, and you've got pedestrians who dive in from of your cart train at every chance. (Trying to kill themselves)

This week end I discovered a new nemesis: The ground! Indeed, I have unveiled a great plot against me by the very ground upon which I walk! It is manifested by the ground exerting pressure upon my shin and then my shin.. dun dun dun! Hurting!

So, yes, I learned a new term. They're called "Shin Splints" And they were quite uncomfortable. I must do some research using the great and mighty oracle in order to find out how to prevent this most heinous of assaults upon my personage.

The effect of the weather on moods

I've noticed an inverse relationship between how high the temperature goes and how spritely and joyous my mood is. If it gets to hot I just lose all energy, and not only become lethargic, but a little grumpy.

The other day it was like 80
Then it got cloudy and thundery and dropped to 75ish and my mood went way up.
Then it rained and I was ecstatic.

And then when the sun came back out and it got hot again, ten minutes later, I was annoyed feeling again.

I don't like working in hot weather.

Learning Japanese on the DS?

For awhile now (around a year) I've been attending free classes on tuesdays at the pullman library to learn japanese. I didn't greatly expect once a week classes to teach me the language, just give me an edge when I start taking a japanese class at university in the fall.

Well, preparing for my class today, I did a google search on learning Kanji. The class is actually out for the summer but a group of us are still meeting to master our kanji. In my search I came upon A game to learn your kanji. It was made for elementary school students to help master their kanji, but it looks awesome. It does stroke order and everything. Once I have money on my credit card, I think I'll order it.

Weekends Suck

So, the weekend was hell. It was super hot outside. I was working in 90-100 degree weather. And besides that there were an exceptionally large number of customers and the other stockman had his days off. So I was running around a LOT trying (and barely succeeding) in keeping up with the carts. There were cart runs during my first break and two during my lunch period. Then I actually called one as soon as I got off lunch as there was no way I could have caught up...

So, yes. Super hot weather is being added to my list-of-hate. Which is vaguely related to the "Coolest Website Idea Ever" which I thought of and am not going to post yet cause it'd totally be stolen.

So, at Walmart (Also known as Corporate Slave Land) we're not allowed to take tips from customers as they say its a breech of ethics. Well, today I was offered one after helping a guy carry a particularly heavy piece of furniture to his car. I told the guy I'm not allowed to take tips due to the rules (on risk of being fired) and he was like "Whoops." and dropped his money on the ground. Then he said "Looks like I dropped it. I'm such a careless customer." and then went to get in his car.
I picked it up. The proper etticite would have been to take it to the service desk and donate it to one of the random little charities that walmart gives people the option of donating to. Instead, as I was called off to do another random odd job, falling further behind on my cart duties, I pocketed the money.
I might actually feel bad about it if it weren't for the fact that every time there is a carryout to do I fall behind on carts and then have to catch up.

The weekend was hell, as usual. When I got to work there were no carts inside and none lined up outside for my closing, but I managed to get them all done.

Then today was my first day off of the week. (Tomorrow is my day off too)

I was greatly amused that they had no stockmen for memorial day. They tried scheduling me next saturday for an hour before I could work. And so I'm just not going to show up till 5.

I'm considering quitting and working over at Arbies as apparently the new manager will hire anyone who has a recommendation of a current employee even if they bomb the interview.

In other news, as this is memorial day, a day to remember those who've fallen in service of the people. You should take a moment to do so. While I despise nationalism (And the imperialism that often causes the death of these fallen soldiers) this does not mean you should disrespect the men themselves.
And so, on this day, I do not just commemorate the Americans who have fallen in the imperialist but all those who have fallen in the line of duty.

Bike Crash

I was going to go off to work yesterday and was turning sharply around a corner when I skid on some gravel and crashed. The palms of my hands got totally chewed up on the pavement as did my right elbow. My right knee and my hip also got a bit scraped, although they had no dirt on them thanks to the power of jeans.

Luckily, the car behind me on the road was really a cop. (His little lights where inside his windshield) He pulled over and gave me a little box of band aids n' stuff that was very helpful in patching myself up.

I was greatly worried that my injured hands would impair my ability to work, as I wasn't sure I could push the carts. Sure enough, it hurt a ton to try to push them, but it didn't hurt to just use the rope and pull them, so thats what I've been doing.

My leg did start hurting though, and by the end of the night I was walking with a limp. Hopefully my leg won't act up today, so I won't have too much of a problem.

Moscow Sniper Shootings

There were shootings going on last night/this morning. I was at my ladyfriend's birthday party when one of the guests' mother called her cell phone and told her that we should all stay where we were and not leave (This was around midnight) as she had been hearing gunshots, lots of them.

It turns out this guy went into the courthouse and was spraying with an automatic rifle. He killed a police officer when the cops responded. Then he took refuge in a church where the police eventually stormed and found two bodies, one of which they believe to be the sniper's.

The courthouse and the church are both only a few blocks from the house which we were in last night for the party. It was a little scary, although, I admit when she first said she heard gunshots I was skeptical. I figured it was just some people shooting off mortars as the stupid frat kids do that all the time.

Once the first round of guests had been driven home and my friend reported seeing police blockades all over the place though... I wasn't skeptical anymore.

Its sad how common killings have become in this area, especially considering its only a community of like 20000 people... Just a month or so ago a college kid was shot by some other crazy college kid..

Whenever I hear "shooting" my first worry is that it was someone I know. Luckily once again, it wasn't.
As far as I know..
They're yet to release the names of the civilian casualties, but all my friends are alive...

Being a cart guy is painful

Shopping carts are heavy. The last three days I've come home from work with my legs and feet totally killing me. And I'm starting to get callouses on my hands. Corporate Slave Land provides its slaves with the best in cart pulling technologies. The amazing "Rope with a hook on the end" is very effective to pull five or six carts at a time. However in the cart pushing technology we're a bit behind as we still use "Slave power."

So, I was a little off. I'd forgotten about the meeting I had today for my bioethics paper. But the paper is now done, and my partner is going convert it to PDF and email it to the teachers.

It's nice to be finished with the homework, but it was a little weird saying goodbye to my partner today. She's moving back to texas within a week and won't be returning next year as she's transferring to a college there. It's just a bit strange saying goodbye to someone and knowing that you'll likely never see them again.

So, I finished up my finals today. The Computer Science final wasn't too bad. I'm pretty sure I did everything right, even the dreaded linked lists. Well, pretty sure anyway. My list was a little confused. So it either works perfectly or writes the same number over and over again. Besides that little issue, it was pretty easy, though.

It was significantly easier than our last regular test.

My math final was a different story. I'm thinking I'll likely get around a C on that one. There were about five questions at the beginning that I knew how to do at once point, but have since forgotten. the middle wasn't so bad, for the most part. On most problem, if I couldn't figure it out, I could plug the answers in because the test was multiple choice. Some of the problem were too long for that, though. Or they had complex answers. It's kind of hard to do it backwards finding the complex factors of polynomials..

And then the last five problems were written not multiple choice. And one of them was a kind of problem that I got wrong on our last test.. and still didn't know how to do this test.

But either way, I am now done with my first year of college. Woot.

In other news, there's lightning outside and my lights just blinked. Hope the power doesn't go out...

So, I took my drug test today to be able to work at corporate slave land. Peeing in a cup is so awkward.. So, starting something around next weekend I should be able to start work. I'll be rescuing carts from the evils of parking lots and.. occassionally cashiering. I have no idea what my hours will be like as the computer generates them. If I could get fridays off it'd be nice. Might end up getting tuesday/saturday though.

Anyway.. Yep, I'm going to start having money.
That'll be a nice feeling.
Especially once I start having to pay rent.

I had an interview at corporate slave land (Also known as walmart) today. I assume I'm getting it, since the asked me to come in for another interview tomorrow with the store manager.
Which would mean "Yay, money." Its something I rather need as I'm getting an apartment this summer.

They asked such annoying questions.
It was like.. the same stuff over and over.
Basically "Do you follow rules, even if they're stupid?"

Content Management Systems and Forums

I've been searching for some time now to find a good CMS to combine with some decent forum software in order to create a website for my flag/crew on Puzzle Pirates. (Eventually I hope to spread this group, and play a variety of online games)

I tried a ton of different small-time CMS's which were set up specifically for guilding, but they all seemed to suck.

Finally I wandered upon a few of the larger CMS sites. First I tried Joomla. It showed a lot of promise as it had a (mostly) easy system for building your site and I found modules in order to supposed Simple Machine Forums. Sadly, the bridge for SMF didn't work very well and constantly gave me trouble.
So I gave up on it.

Next up came Mambo. Now, I heard it compared to Joomla but I hadn't expected them to be THAT similar. They were like... the same program. So..
Down with that one.

Plenty of Despair later, I discovered Drupal. Drupal had looked a little overly simple when I was first looking, so I hadn't given it a chance. But, I'd heard some good things about it from the ladyfriend's dad, who is a networking guy, so I thought, meh, why not?
And so I installed Drupal. In order to install Drupal, I had to find a new host but.. It might be worth it.
Overall, it seems to offer everything I need. I can even get it to offer me some vague integration. The only problem I'm still running into between Drupal and phpbb is my cookies. They just won't line up..
When I tried to see if anyone else was having this problem, I turned up nothing, so I'm going to check internet explorer and see if it works in there and just not firefox...

Loyalty can be so hard to find

As the readers may or may not know I run a crew and flag on Puzzle Pirates. Like any group, you're really relying on the loyalty of your teammates in order for the group to grow and flourish. Sadly, sometimes on the net loyalty can be hard to come by. I recently lost two players who were some of my most active for a long time. One of those floated out of the crew, the other is still around but dormant.
My most loyal officer is leaving for awhile as she was in the united states studying and is heading back to Europe. On top of this, I lost two crews out of my flag because other flags offered them better "benefits"
Yep..
Loyalty is hard to find.
But, heck, what do you expect from a bunch of kids?

Huzzah Tabletop!

I was approached by a classmate at school on friday asking if I wanted to partake in a tabletop campaign he was running. I gleefully accepted. I am currently in the process of planning out a character history.
He doesn't use a typical system instead, he's spent the last three years developing his own. It is a lot more opened ended than most systems which makes it a bit more like freeforms, which I enjoy quite a bit.
My only annoyance is that I rolled rather average stats, while the other two players rolled munchkin stats. I shall now need to make my character history really good in order to hope that I can convince him to let me raise the stats up a bit.

F-bomb, esplode.

The F-bomb made up a very large portion of my vocabulary today, between a hard math test and a very frustrating programming assignment. On the test, I got a 75%, same as I got on the version I took yesterday.
Tomorrow will be my last chance to get a higher grade.. Hopefully I'll nail it.
I don't know what I'm going to do as far as my programming goes. I didn't have it done by class, but I thought I just needed to write the output and I'd be good to go. Should have taken twenty minutes.
After four hours of wrestling with it, I ran out of time. I had to go to a meeting for my group Bioethics paper and..
5 o' clock is when the professor's office hours end.
So, I don't think I'll be able to turn in the assignment now... However, as long as I find out what went wrong, I'll be happy for the most part.
If I had to pick one, I'd rather learn the lesson than get a good grade on the assignment.

So, I managed to make it through flu season without getting sick. But alas, the last couple days I've felt something coming on.
My nose has been running.
But its also been stuffy.
And I'm getting that painful nasal congestion thing going on..
Quite unpleasant.

When I get home I think I'll pump some vitamin C because vitamin C fixes everything. If it beat down my tonsillitis it can beat down this cold, right?

The html thing isn't letting me use my javascript. I'm considering digging into the html tmeplate that goes with it, but making the other interface user friendly has caused their code to be really messy and hard to read.

Of Speeches and...

Today started out rather abysmally. First I forgot my video tape that I'm required to have with me on speech days. I was standing at the bus stop with the bus about to arrive when I realized this. So I rushed back home and got it and then proceeded to walk to the university. Takes about 20 minutes, mostly uphill.

I arrived and went to the bathroom at the beginning on comm 101. Sadly, this means I missed the person giving their speech on web comics. It would have been interesting. I like web comics. I'd love to make one if I had any artistic skills at all.

Anyway, eventually it came to my turn to give my speech. I was giving it on Roleplay, the types, what you need to do it, and how it improves your writing and speaking skills. Alas, my speech ended up being less well planned out than I thought it was. I was allocated six minutes: I went over. At six minutes and thirty seconds, I was told to jump to my conclusion.
This managed to make me lose my entire third section, which I considered to be the most important.

It was quite sad, quite sad, indeed.

So, as should be known, I run a few different blogs. And I like the various websites on the internet to be aware every time I update. Thats how you get traffic.
Technorati supposedly updates its list every thiry minutes or so.
However, when I've been checking up on it every couple days, I've noticed that it hasn't been pinging. So, I'm forced to manually ping it after I update.
This doesn't take too long, but its still a pain to have to manually update it after each post. After all, its unlikely to drive me much traffic if it's unaware that I updated for a few days after I posted.

Bridge to Terabithia

When I went to this movie yesterday, at first I was a little skeptical, simply because it was a disney movie. While I expected an uplifting, happy tale about a couple kids and their imaginary adventures, what I got was a touching, if not really sad, movie about.. ehh.. true friendship. And all that jazz.

The point of the matter, to stop trying to sound like a movie reviewer, was that it was really good. And being the little girl with movies that I am, I cried. For the most part, it lacked the trademark disney style I was expecting. Only the very end had the whole cheesy disney thing going on. Having not read the book yet, I can't compare the two. The lass I was watching the movie with said they were pretty close, the disnification of the ending was more visual than anything.

The magic of their world was that it was all part of the natural world, forests and stuff. Elven forests, but forests none the less.

And then in the last thirty seconds they go and make everything all shiny and golden...

Disney's vendetta against people who want to leave a sad movie without a cutesy looking ending aside, the movie was rad, and I recommend all my nonexistant readers go watch it.
Or at least rent it when it comes out on video.
